Labour gives Oshiomhole 28 days to pay teachers’ arrears

Organised labour in Edo state has issued Governor Adams Oshiomhole a 28-day ultimatum to pay primary schools teachers their outstanding arrears of 10.5per cent Teachers Salary Allowance (TSA).

The unionist said the teachers would be left with no option than to proceed on indefinite strike action if government failed to heed their demands.

This was contained in a communiqué issued by the organised labour, comprising of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) after an executive meeting in Benin City, yesterday.

The communiqué which was signed by the state NLC chairman, Comrade Emma Ademokun and two others also resolved to put- on- hold; an industrial action scheduled to kick off yesterday.

He said the NLC “supports in totality the decision of teachers in Edo state not to government proposed assessment test for the tutors.”

Ademokun, however, assured workers of government plan to meet organised labour demand of 53.37per cent salary relativity for workers.
