Lafarge empowers host community with devt project

As part of its corporate social responsibilities and determination to strengthen relationship between its host communities and the Cross River state government, Lafarge Africa Plc, owners of Unicem cement, said it was taking active part in community day celebration besides empowering host communities with development projects.
Speaking during the launch of the Mfamosing Community Day in Calabar yesterday, the plant manager, Lafarge Africa Plc’s 5mmt cement plant in Mfamosing community, Peter Robson, said: “The essence of this initiative is to further demonstrate our commitment to supporting community development in line with the 2030 development ambition, one of which focuses on people and communities.
“The building solutions and infrastructure company will continue to support and empower host communities in order to improve the quality of their lives and stimulate sustainable development.”
He listed activities planned to mark the Community Day celebrations to include football tournament, commissioning of completed community development projects and Quiz competition among school children.
He said the Mfamosing plant has 10 partnering communities cutting across Akamkpa, Akpabuyo and Calabar Municipality of Cross River state, adding that the company had enjoyed a harmonious working relationship with the communities and promised not to relent in their commitment to the social and economic development of the various communities.
Our reporter gathered that the community day celebration started on February 6 and was expected to be rounded off on February 23, at Mfamosing where the main plant is located.
Ten host communities, including Akamkpa, Akpabuyo and Calabar Municipality, are taking part in the event.
