The Lafia based private-owned radio station, Breeze 99.9 FM in Nasarawa state,, Friday resumed full transmission.
The station’s executive director, Mr, Nawani Aboki, disclosed this in Lafia, saying the station was meant to allow both government and individuals or groups to share their views and opinions for the overall development of the state.
He thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule for the support given to the station to resume operations, adding that, “We appreciate his efforts we thanked him for the support we have received to start the station.”
Aboki said the station was not all about politics, but for the economic and social well-being of people, and promised to continue working in synergy with the state government to achieve the set objectives.
“A lot of people were giving several reasons Breeze FM was demolished, but as far as I am concerned Al-Makura has not given a good reason he did what he did. I am hoping and praying that one day Al-Makura and his group will give us the reason he did what he did,” he said.
He appreciated the listeners for their support, saying “it appears that even as we came back we still make relevant to the people of Nasarawa state.”
On May 20, 2017, the station was demolished on the orders of former Governor Umaru Al-Makura over alleged violations, stating that the structure that housed the station was illegal and that the radioactive waves emanating from the station were dangerous to health.
However, on June 7, 2019, a High Court declared the demolition of the station illegal and awarded N67 million as compensation against the Nasarawa government and further directed the state government to offer public apologies to the management of the station.
