Two men who allegedly stole five motorcycles, valued at N1,250,000,00,
were, Thursday, arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendants were MonsuruOdeleye, 30, who resides at No. 1, Oke
Abiye Street, Alagbado and OpeyemiAdekanbi, 25, of Powerline area,
Agege, both in Lagos.
The defendants, who are both motorcycle riders, are facing a
two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were
committed on November 29 at Amikanle Market, Alagbado, Lagos.
Akeem alleged that the complainant, MrItaola, gave his eight
motorcycles to the defendants for business purposes.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants were to be paying some
amount of money to the complainant on weekly basis.
“The defendants came back to tell the complainant that five out of the
eight motorcycles, all of which were valued at N1,250,000, had been
stolen,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the case was reported at the police station,
leading to the arrest of the defendants.
The offences, according to Akeem, contravene sections 287 and 411 of
the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, admitted the defendants to N1
million bail each, with two sureties in like sum.
Layinka adjourned the case till Jan. 21, 2020, for mention. (NAN)
