Lagos state House of Assembly yesterday faulted the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kazeem Adeniji, on request to suspend legislative actions of 15 pending executive bills and regulations before the Assembly.
This followed the request for Suspension of Legislative actions on Executive Bills and Regulations by the Attorney General in a letter read on the floor of the Assembly by the Clerk of the House, Mr Ganiyu Abiru.
The lawmakers took turns to condemn the directive, stressing that the Attorney-General had no powers to influence the ways the Assembly would conduct its business.
In his view, Hon Bisi Yusuff (APC-Alimosho I) condemned the state’s attorney general for the tone of the letter directing the assembly to stop actions on matters before it.
Yusuff said the Office of the Attorney General could institute amendment to the bill rather than ordering the Assembly on his duty.
The affected bills and regulations were: Lagos State Public Private Partnership Amendment bill 2013, Lagos State Sunset Agency bill 2013, Lagos State Police Regulatory Authority bill 2014, Lagos State Public Works Corporation 2014 and Lagos State Examination Board bill 2014.
Responding, the Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, directed the Clerk to write the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to meet with the principal officers of the House.
