Lagos comes alive with easter carnival

Lagos city came alive yesterday as the state marked its 2014 Easter Street Carnival with fun fares and acrobatic displays at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island.
Though fun lovers in the state defied the tense security in the country to enjoy themselves at the carnival, the security cordon thrown around the carnival was a reminder that no one was willing to take chances after the senseless slaughter at Nyanya Motor park in the outskirt of the Federal Capital Territory last week.

The carnival was a combination of fun and commerce, as the business community capitailsed on the huge turnout of spectators to selling face masks and other carnival items to willing buyers.
The carnival kicked-off with students from various secondary schools in the state participating in parades.
The children procession was heralded with a parade of a mobile sculpture of former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Some of the schools that took part in the carnival include Magbon Alade Senior Grammar School, Itolo girls Secondary school, Odumola Secondary school, Epe Senior Secondary School and TinCan Island Juniour High School.
As the procession gathered steam, wife of Lagos State Governor Mrs.  Abimbola Fashola lifted the spirit of the students who featured in the carnival when she joined one of the groups in the parade.
The highlight of the children carnival was the emergence of the carnival queen in her chariot to the delight of spectators.

The children procession was followed by the adult procession organized in various primary colours.
In his terse remark, the state governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola said his administration was determined to put the state on world tourism map.
He said the state tourism and hospitality industry was growing fast, creating jobs for people and boosting the economy.
