Lagos lawmaker pledges to revamp primary health centres

The lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo constituency I at the Lagos Assembly, Hon. Olusola Shokunle has disclosed of plans to revamp all primary healthcare centres in the state to make them more functional.

Hon. Shokunle was speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Lagos Assembly which took place simultaneously in the 40 constituencies Thursday.

While reacting to different issues raised by his constituents, specifically on the state of primary healthcare centres in Oshodi as raised by the chairman Oshodi/Isolo local government, Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh, Shokunle said the state was already working on the resuscitation of all the primary healthcare centres.

“I can tell you by the virtue of the information at my disposal as the chairman house committee on healthcare services that the government is presently working on a plan to revamp all the primary healthcare centres in Lagos.

This is to make them more functional,  we are aware of the state of the facilities and the staffing which is inadequate, all these will be sorted out soon for all of us to enjoy”, Shokunle said.

Another constituent, Mr Babatunde Noah Abinukole, complained about the perennial flooding and plastic pollution along the Agege motor road, which he described as a problem the community had to grapple with each time it rains at Oshodi.

Responding, Hon. Shokunle referred him to the address earlier given by the Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, Hon. Moruf Akinderu  who explained the plan of the government on waste management, waste sorting and recycling to reduced plastic pollution and drainage blockage.

“The house had equally set up a ad-hoc committee to go round the state to see the state of the canals, the level of work done and report back to the house their findings which would determine the next line of action,” Shokunle added.

Shokunle promised to ensure that public toilets are built to give people an alternative to open defecation but not without enforcing the law against those who would still not make use of the public toilets when they are built.

Bishop Elizabeth Ojo, leader of farmers’ association in Oshodi, urged the lawmaker and the local government chairman to look into creating employment opportunities  the youth and women through the agricultural sector, a proposal the lawmaker promised to work on.

On security, Mr Erinle Adesina, who is the head of the Reformed Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in Oshodi, requested for patrol vehicles which would help them reach the Police on time when there are urgent security issues which according to him sometimes overwhelm them.

Meanwhile, the market people lamented that they had been fenced away from their customers due to the ongoing Oshodi inter-change project, they said this has led to low patronage for them while appealing to the government to speed up the project to give their businesses a new lease of life.
