Th e Chairman of Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Segun Adewale, has said that the council polls could have been the best time to dislodge All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Adewale said this while addressing newsmen after casting his vote at Poling Unit 019 Ward A in Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Areas of Alimosho. Th e PDP chairman, who expressed concern over the lingering crises in Lagos PDP, said that he was ready for the peace to reign in the party. According to him, the leadership crisis has caused the party many fortunes.

“Th ere is a challenge APC right now, a serious challenge, so APC is divided right now. So, if we have a formidable PDP contesting with APC, we will win 100 per cent. It is sad that some people are bent on dividing us. When we are divided we would not be able march the strength of the divided APC. Th at’s why I go alone,” said Adewale. He condemned the defection of a section of the PDP, loyal to Sen. Ahmed Makarfi , to the Labour Party (LP) and Accord Party in the election. According to him, the alliance with LP is to defl ate PDP by some leaders of the party who are working to give way to APC. Adewale said he has off ered to step down as PDP chairman in the state in May for Hon. Moshood Salvador-led faction for the sake of the council elections. He said, however, that he had mandate of the national leadership as PDP chairman in the state, saying that the delegate congress that produced him was monitored by the national body.

Adewale, who added that he had the letter of confi rmation ever before the national crisis emerged, said that he was still ready to step down as a way forward. On the council polls, Adewale said: “Th is system is fl awed from the beginning. It is a rubbish exercise in Alimosho LGA. “My younger sister was beating by APC thugs in Pipeline in Agbado OkeOdo LCDAs today when she complained against rigging in a polling unit. Th is election is programmed to make APC wins. As far as I am concerned, there was no election. “In most polling units, there were ballot papers for councilorship but no ballot papers for chairmanship”, said Adewale.
