Lai Mohammed, Gbemi Saraki are paper-weights in Kwara politics, elders blast Ministers

Some prominent elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state have declared their support for the replacement of the state chairman by governor Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker Committee.

The Kwara elders said the Minister of Information Lai Mohammed and Minister of state for Transportation Gbemi Saraki were sponsoring the attacks against the governor for their selfish interests, dared the two ministers and their ‘gang’ to show their strengths in their Local governments if they are in anyway relevant politically.

The elders declared that they were not igniting another mantra against the two Ministers but “Once they go against the ‘O to ge mantra, O to ge will fight them.”

The Kwara state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently boiling over the purported removal of Hon Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, as the state chairman by the National Caretaker Committee on the instruction of the state governor.

A group led by Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo had told newsmen at a press conference on Wednesday that unless the removal of the state chairman is reversed peace will continue to elude the party in Kwara state.

But responding at another press conference at the national secretariat of APC, Thursday in Abuja, the APC Kwara Elders Forum led by Barrister Kunle Suleiman, said the replacement was done in good intention the caretaker committee.

In a lengthy statement read by Amb. Nurudeen Mohammed, said For many months, “the former chairman Bashir Bolarinwa and his co-travelers have launched a campaign of calumny against the fine gentleman to the chagrin of Kwara public who wonder what could warrant these party chieftains from the ruling party attacking their own Governor despite his glaring record of achievements in less than two years, humility, openness, and prudence.

“It is on record that these gangs dedicated a weekly programme to denigrate the Governor, his administration, and the House of Assembly. They never missed any opportunity to denigrate the office of the Governor. Certainly, no system, much less an organised political party, can survive the level of indiscipline, arrogance and unbridled ambitions of these lousy few. The intervention of the national headquarters of the party is therefore timely and necessary to save the party from these oppressive, self-centred gang.”

The elders said governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasag has performed beyond expectations, wondered “Why then would anyone from his own party go against him? The only explanation is that such persons are not interested in development but in their own hidden agenda which is at variance with the Otoge mantra.

“We have kept quiet for long in the expectation that good reason will prevail. But silence is no longer golden and it is about time every patriot, within and outside our party, stood by this humble and hard working gentleman in order not to allow a few persons persons with dangerous sense of entitlement and greed to erode the historic gains of 2019.

“Once again, we declare our total support for the removal of the former chairman and his replacement with a mature and amiable party man Alhaji Abdullahi Samari. That decision came at the right time. It was the lifeline that the party desperately needed to escape the bumpy journey to the Golgotha that Hon. BOB was taking it through.”
