Lalong tasks Grand Kadi on corruption, justice

Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong has tasked the state acting Grand Kadi of Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Umar Ibrahim Abdullahi, to lend his hands in sanitising the legal system.
The governor gave the task while swearing-in the acting Grand Kadi, at the Government House, Jos.
“You must also at this crucial time of our country’s war against corruption and all forms of mal-administration in public office, do the needful as you join hands with all stakeholders in the judiciary and justice delivery system in our nation to sanitise the system,” the governor said.
He said the swearing of the acting Grand Kadi followed the established sequence of judicial precedence in line with the time tested tradition of succession by seniority on the bench, following the retirement of Justice Adamu Shuaibu Musa Kanam after putting in the mandatory 35 years in service.
“Let me state that the swearing-in of the Acting Grand Kadi for the Plateau State Sharia Court of Appeal through the administration of the oath of office and allegiance, conforms with the specific provision of section 275, 276(1-4) and particularly sub section (4) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
“The process for the confirmation or appointment of the substantive Grand Kadi shall follow the constitutionally laid down procedure, on the recommendation and the confirmation of the appointment by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Plateau State House of Assembly, respectively and this shall commence immediately,” he said.
