Lalong tasks religious leaders on nation-building

Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong, has said that Muslims and Christians had the spiritual and patriotic duty of “keeping Nigeria a peaceful and united nation.”

The governor stated this yesterday when he received a delegation of the Muslim ummah in the state that paid him Sallah homage at the Government House, Jos.

He said: “Christians and Muslims alike have the spiritual and patriotic duty of doing all that is necessary to preserve the unity of our nation, and to promote the enthronement of all virtues, ideals and national ethos that will showcase Nigeria to the world as a multi-ethnic and religious nation, whose diversity and pluralism remain her cherished heritage and strength.”

Lalong expressed delight over the homage by the Muslims, stressing that “it is an open exhibition of the peaceful co-existence and inter-religious harmony being enjoyed in the state.”

“Sharing in the joy and love of the celebration of this year’s Eid el-Kabir with the Moslem Ummah underscores our common humanity, and shows that our various convictions of faith predisposes itself to good neighbourliness and brotherhood.”

He assured the people that his administration “will continue to impact social justice and good governance through inclusive participation and a decentralised development that reaches all and sundry.”

Lalong felicitated with His Eminence, Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III (CFR), in addition to appreciating the Muslim ummah, for their prayers for the recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari, urging them not to relent in their prayers for the progress of the country.

Leader of the Muslim delegation, Emir of Wase, Dr. Sambo Haruna, said the Muslims in the state were grateful for his support to them.
