Land dispute: Araromi-Obu sues for peace

The people of  Araromi-Obu in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo state have again sued for peace over  the land dispute between the community and the Ikales.

Speaking at a press conference over the weekend under the auspices of Araromi-Obu Development Council (ADC ) Senator Omololu Meroyi, a  leader in the community said  the  Araromi-Obu people have been on the disputed land for over five hundred years before  the Ikales who are  tenants arrive  few years ago.

He said the Araromi-Obu people have always continued to embrace peace and abide with the rules and regulations of the land, despite several provocations and wanton destructions embarked on by the Ikale people over the matter.

He said:  “It is pertinent to inform the  public that contrary to the  deliberate falsehood, untruth, half truth and sophistry been  peddled by General Bajowa and his cohorts, Araromi-Obu has been in existence for over 500 years with the present Ajobu,  Ona Aderemi Adelola as the 18th occupant of the throne in the ancient town. It is therefore shocking that in spite of avalanche of documentary evidence freely signed by the Ikales as tenants of our forefathers spanning over a century, they could turn around to assert that Araromi-Obu people are settlers in their own  land.”

The Araromi-Obu people fingered the Gen. Olu Bajowa (RTD), a monarch, Abodi of Ikoya and others for the crisis that led to wanton destruction of lives and properties and causing break down of law and order for the economic benefit of few.

He stated that several peace steps and meeting called at instance of security agencies and state government were shunned by the Ikale monarch.

It will be recalled that as a result of series of hostilities in Araromi Obu and Ikale(Ago-Alaye) which resulted in loss of lives and wanton destruction of properties over land dispute, the Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) has constituted a five member panel of inquiry.
