Land dispute: Zamfara residents seek govt intervention

Pandemonium gripped communities of Samunaka area in Gusau metropolis, Monday as owners of hundreds of confiscated lands by the previous government of Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari converged to reclaim their land, following the recent directive given by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to return their land.

The leader of the community, Alhaji Adamu Umar, in an interview with journalists called on Governor Matawalle to as a matter of urgency intervene in the matter.

“Many people would have sustained various degrees of injuries during the clash between the real owners of the plots and those acclaimed owners who trespassed on the land but for the intervention of some elders and other respected ones in the society,” he said.

Governor  Maradun has given an order with immediate effect, that all the owners of such lands and houses that were already completed and later confiscated by the immediate past administration without compensation should be returned to them.

“Despite the directives given by the governor, and to the dismay of the land owners on their arrival to the place, they met a number of people trying  to developed the land and on sighting the people working at different portions in the area and were not part of the original owners, they became angry and thus attempted to destroy the already erected structures,” Alhaji Adamu stated.

The aggrieved owners who demanded for evidence of legal occupation of the land from the people who also claimed ownership stated that they obeyed the law when they were asked to vacate the area by the previous government of Abdulaziz Yari, adding  that currently, Governor Matawalle has given their land back and no one can deprive them of their land.
