Land surveyors guide, sensitise Kaduna students on professional career 

The Young Surveyors’ Network (YSN), Kaduna state branch has sensitized students of Divine Progress School Narayi High Cost Kaduna, on the need to take land survey as a profession and build a future for themselves.

Speaking on the career guidance and counselling carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), the Chairman of YSN in Kaduna state, Surv. Taka Nicholas  said land survey is as old as history can remember and Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is perhaps one of the oldest organized bodies in Nigeria, having been established in 1934 as the “Licensed Surveyors Association” under the leadership of late nationalist, Herbert Heelas Macaulay.

“The land surveying profession is very lucrative and practitioners can be self-employed   without hassles. For you to be able to study land survey in tertiary institutions, you have to take science subjects serious in your secondary school day and in future you will be land surveyor that the society and your family will be proud of.”

Addressing Journalists shortly after the event, Surv. Nicholas said the sensitization programme is party of the “Catch them young” program of Young Surveyors’ Network of Nigeria to educate the future generations of the opportunities available in land surveying.

A Lecturer at the Department of Geometric, Surv. Christiana Olusesi said the students should start planning for their future as land surveyors because of the numerous opportunities that the profession will make available to them. Olusesi, who is also the Coordinator, Woman in Surveying, said as a lecturer, she still practice as a land surveyor an opportunity hardly found in other professions.

Similarly, Surv. Ephraim Musa told the students that they can have their dreams of becoming a land surveyor realized through seeking admission to study in the polytechnic or university. He encouraged the students to start building a future of becoming land surveyor in order to be relevant and sellable

The Principal of Divine Progress School, Umar Philips commended the Young Surveyors’ Network (YSN) for Organising the programme, pointing out that it connotes the seriousness of the young surveyors to develop the potentials of the students.

A student of the school, Bala Ramido David said after listening to the talks and presentations from the (YSN) he, like many students, have made up their minds to take land surveying as a profession.
