Lassa fever outbreak: NYSC member infected in Delta




A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Asaba, Delta state has been infected with lassa fever. 

The corps member identified as Yinka fell sick  Wednesday last week and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for treatment. 

It was gathered that Yinka was rushed to the hospital from his lodge by the fellow corps members. 

The corps member was said to have referred to Irrua specialist hospital in Edo state after confirming the virus at the Federal Medical Center (FMC),  Monday in Asaba.

A source said series of test were conducted at FMC from Friday last week till Monday, before the lassa fever virus was discovered 

She said: “Yinka fell sick since Wednesday last week, but we were buying drugs thinking it was just a malaria , but there was no improvement,  his eyes and body turned  to white. His urine was dark, on Friday, we decided to take him to FMC for medical attention.
