For General John Paul Isang and Air Vice Marshal, Gbolahan Adebola Adekunle, Friday, July 28, 2017, will forever remain a memorable day as both retired military offi cers were bestowed with the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Outstanding Merit Award by the Kwame Nkrumah Vanguard Movement of Ghana.
Th e investiture ceremony, which was performed by the Nigerian representative of the group, Pastor Felix Okonkwo, took place at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Utako, Abuja. Speaking at the event, Okonkwo, who paid glowing tributes to the awardees, extolled the leadership qualities of the late Ghanaian President, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah, whom he said worked assiduously not only for the liberation of his country, Ghana from shackles of colonialism, but set the tempo for other countries in the African continent to follow suit.
In his remarks, Isang thanked the Kwame Nkrumah Vanguard Movement for fi nding them worthy of the honour and advised younger elements currently in the military to serve the nation with integrity and honour. Speaking in the same vein, Adekunle, who appreciated the group for the award, said: “I personally share something in common with the Late Osegyefo Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana. One of his greatest achievements in life was to drive Ghana as one entity to independence on March 6, 1957, exactly one year before I was born on March 6, 1958.”
