Lawmaker donates bridge to Abuja community

Residents of Durumi II in Garki ward of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory can now heave a sigh of relief as Hon. Micah Jiba representing AMAC/Bwari federal constituency has built and donated a new culvert bridge to them.

A community leader, Musa Umar, who spoke to newsmen at the event on Monday, said the collapsed culvert bridge at Angwan Kara rendered most of the activities in the community useless, adding that most of the residents no longer felt safe to go through the culvert for their businesses, even as hoodlums took advantage of the collapsed culvert bridge to steal from defenceless residents.

While speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the royal father of Garki chiefdom, Dr Usman Ngakupi on behalf of the community, thanked the lawmaker for the project.

“It is very difficult for a House of Representatives member who has not started receiving constituency allowances to achieve a project such as this with his personal fund. I want to use this opportunity to call on the constituents to always pray for him and grant him every necessary support to do more.

Ngakupi described Jiba as a man of the people capable of defending the course of the FCT people at the lower chamber.

On his part, Hon. Micah Jiba said the project was done with his personal fund, saying it was part of his campaign promises to the people.

According him, “Any time I found myself in a leadership position by election, I try as much as possible to fulfil the promises made. And I have commenced this way and I will continue to do more in coming months.

“Leadership is all about good representation and I will surely deliver every project that will attract business activities to my constituency,” he said.
