Lawmaker tasks FG on Ajaokuta – Itobe road

The member representing Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, has called on the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to commence rehabilitation work on the Itobe-Ajaokuta Bridge in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi state.

The call was sequel to a motion on the floor of the House which was unanimously adoption by members during plenary over the week.

Tagged “motion of urgent national importance on Itobe-Ajokuta road,” Halims said several lives had been lost as commuters had remained stranded constantly on the road which, according to him, in recent times has become a hiding place for criminals.

He said “it is important to urgently address the decay on the road which is gradually affecting parts of the bridge because of its importance in order to avert breakdown of economic activities in the area and other parts of the state.”

Halims said the road, on which the bridge is located, “connects other parts of the country where economic activities are dominant,” adding that allowing the road to collapse “will tell on the economic fortunes of the country and other attendant consequences.”

He said goods and services being transported through the road on daily basis to all parts of the country had perished on several occasion due to the nature of the road as the rainy season had made it more terrible.
