Lawyer tasks Senate on ‘ECWA Church shooting’

Lawyer to ECWA Church, Durumi, in the alleged shooting of a security guard attached to the place of worship, Barrister Musa Baba-Panya, has charged the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges to speed upinvestigation into the attack to bring the culprit to justice.
An unnamed police sergeant allegedly shot one of the security guards, Mr. Robo Danbeyi, attached to the church in broad day light on February 25, 2018, causing commotion in the neighbourhood. Hearing on the petition which was brought to the Senate ethics committee began last week but the absence of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, forced the chairman of the committee, Senator Chris Anyanwu, to adjourn pending the physical presence of the IGP at the next sitting to give answers to many of the issues against the Police Force.
The victim, Mr. Robo Danbeyi, on bandage, was wheeled to the National Assembly by the petitioners last Friday as evidence of the ‘police’ operative’s dastardly act.
Speaking with Blueprint on the issue at the weekend, the ECWA attorney, Baba Panya, said he was worried over the delay in the investigation, but expressed confi dence in the Senate committee to get to the root of the matter. He added that “the church will not allow the culprit to go scot free while the victim and the members continue to nurse the trauma of the attack.”
