Lawyer wants Buhari to rehabilitate Benue communities

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Emmanuel Otebe, has urged the federal government to rehabilitate Benue communities ravaged by the herdsmen attacks.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Makurdi, Ogebe expressed shock over the humanitarian challenges the state is going through as a result of the attack by the herders.
He said there was urgent need for the affected communities to be rehabilitated so that the internally displaced persons would return home and continue with their farming activities.
“I have worked extensively in the North East of Nigeria on the Boko Haram crises only to come home and find to my shock and dismay that my very own home is going through a similar magnitude of atrocities.
“I understand that those displaced by Boko Haram have been re-absorbed into schools, and schools have been built for them.
I have seen transformation in the North East where the Northeast Development Commission has been created for them but the farmers who feed this nation have not been rehabilitated.
That is an act of atrocity.
“So, it is our desire that our people be rehabilitated and allowed to return to their farming so that they can feed the nation,” he added.
He said Nigeria was playing with its own food security and its survival, noting that what was going on in Nigeria, if care is not taken, might result to a chaotic situation.
