Lead British Int’l School leads in inter schools contest

 

Lead British International School Abuja, yesterday emerged top as overall winner at the: ‘Tour and Speech Contest’, organised by ‘A Woman Heart Foundation’ , in collaboration with other non-governmental organisations.

The speech contest was organised for selected schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The second position went to Government Science Secondary School , Pyakasa, Maitama, Abuja.

Vice President of the association, Miss Apomilda Haruna Tsammani, in a chat with Blueprint Weekend, said the contest was to contribute towards the education of youngsters.

The contest which was also supported by the United States Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, was focused “sexual abuse of children’, early marriage for the girl child’, the domestication of child rights, etc

The aim of the contest is to increase the capacity of children on issues of sexual abuse and child’s rights among secondary schools in the Federal Capital territory”, said the organisers.

Some other schools that participated in the contest include Abuja Capital International School Gwarimpa, Government Science College Kuje and Government Science Technical College, Garki.

In a key note address, Head of Gender Unit, FCT Science and Technology, HajiyaHadiza, said “nothing can be compared to the development of younger children to enable them understand their society and their well-being”.

According to her, the only way the society could develop future leaders was when those future leaders were made to understand certain cultural and societal ills that plague their environments.
The John Paul Usman Foundation, a partner of the event is an advocate for children’s rights and peace building.

Blueprint Weekend learnt that prior to the grand finale of this contest, over 1,200 pupils were trained by the Foundation.
