Let’s work to reduce fuel price to N100 per litre – SSA

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Bahari on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, has urged Nigerians to work hard and ensure citizens buy fuel at the rate of N100 per litre.

The SSA stated this during a working visit to his office by the Domestic Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria (DROAN) Friday, in Abuja.

Speaking at the interactive session, Enang said the aim is to harness and integrate locally refined products into the petroleum market to help crash the price of petroleum products in the country. He added that the reason why petroleum products prices went up was due to the process of extracting, exporting, refining and returning it back to the country has made it expensive and cumbersome.

“As we succeed with you, we will eliminate and be able to crash the price of refined petroleum products because what makes refined petroleum products costly is the cost of freight, sending it abroad to be refined. You pay ports authority, you pay NIMASA, you pay for the chatter of the vessels that take it there, you pay the duties in Nigeria, you pay the duties in the country that it is landing etc.

“So what Nigerians are actually paying for is not the real cost of the product, it is the services, and by the time we engage with you and we are able to have the domestic Nigerian refinery, all those other charges will be eliminated and like you have been telling me, the price of refined petroleum products will come under N100 per litre,” he stated.

The national chairman, DROAN, Mr. Godwin Sunday said the Oil and Gas sector should be expanded and henceforth, avoid monopoly.
