Letter to Nigerian graduates

Dear graduates, the rate of graduation from public and private tertiary institutions is rapidly increasing. Consequently, government at all levels may not be able to handle such a high number and provide employment for them in the public sector. One should look after veritable skills, as the country faces economic downturn. Therefore, every graduate should find a specific field of learning so that things will turn out beneficial for them.

It is pertinent to note that given Nigeria’s current economic system, the government sectors are not reliable enough to overcome the great challenge of unemployment in the country, not to talk of private authorities, and the rise in several employment records mostly affects the youths, particularly,  graduates from different levels of education. The security agencies have described the phenomenon as a threat to Nigeria’s security where poverty, starvation and depression can lead the youths to bring negative outcomes after getting their dreams shattered.

However, by focusing on the changing situation of the graduates, considering learning skills can be in forefront of the priority to achieve the process. In this 21st Century, there are various skilful opportunities from the ones in modern technology, agriculture, online marketing,  media architecture, industrial creativity and other ways to be self-reliant without waiting for the government’s offer.

It is high time for graduates to cross into the field of learning skills to develop themselves and help the government in generating revenue and reducing the rate of unemployment. This will enthrone peace as millions of graduates will find work to do and remain steadfast for the development of the country.

Finally, there is nothing in idle living, especially by capable graduates, who have the theoretical aspect and adding it with skilful knowledge will help to improve their lives. Learning viable skills can revamp Nigeria’s economy and keep the graduates away from involving in unlawful acts. Most viable learning of skills is in centres that usually come up with certificates and it raises the standard of experience for the graduates while seeking government jobs.
