Letter to President-elect Tinubu

First of all, let me begin by congratulating you on for winning the just concluded 2023 presidential election, in other words, for becoming the fourth Nigerian president since the return of democracy to the country in 1999. The roll call is: Chief Olusegun Obasanjo 1999 – 2007, Late Umaru Musa Yar Adua 2007 – 2009, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan 2009 – 2015, Muhammadu Buhari 2015 – 2023, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu 2023 -.

I might say that becoming Nigeria’s chief executive officer has been your long and only dream, because for those who are following your politics keenly will testify that eventually you have made it perfectly.

I wrote something similar to this either about eight years back when Buhari won the 2015 presidential election or was re-elected. I have decided to write again regardless of who succeeds Buhari, thank God I have fulfilled my promise.

Mr President-elect sir, before going straight to the matter at hand, let me briefly remind you some of your kind and courageous words that you made about our current sordid situation and what you should do in the next four years that we’ll be under your watch. This is because there’s no wisdom in dragging us back. Besides, you are also a historian.

His Excellency sir, you said, “I am Bola Ahmad Tinubu. I built a state that could be a country on its own. I built Lagos state from N500 million or more to to N1 billion or more onthly IGR”. These and other related words that you made have clearly reaffirmed to us that you are ready for the job.

Mr President-elect Sir, I may say that Nigeria began in your presence, because your political career began before you became the governor of Lagos state. So, to me, there’s nothing you do not know about the country even though all this while you have concentrated your attention on the South-west. This is the first time you would reach out across the niger.

His Excellency sir, I know well that deep down in your heart you want Nigerians to be singing your name even after you leave the presidency, therefore, I have some take-home messages/brotherly advice.

Mr President-elect Sir, the Tinubu we know well right from Lagos state to date needs no any advise on how to handle things straight, but for the sake of exercising my civic duty I have to say this.

Sir, remember how you met Lagos state and how it is now. So, bring back that blueprint that you used in Lagos state and implement it here. I am pretty sure things would be alright, but never focus more on infrastructure and abandon human capital development. This is because it is not every Nigerian who has vehicles to ride on roads, but all want to go for business, all want to enroll their kids in school, all want to afford basic needs.

In addition, shower your mercy on the poor who voted for you, because they are no longer breathing. Now a poor man cannot afford three square meals. Show your compassion and kindness to the education system, because the system has collapsed. Focus on security matters, Innocent lives are lost on a daily basis. Our economy is down, tamper mercy to it, resuscitate it to its previous level.

However, do not forget that you are not going to stay in that position forever, it is like tomorrow you are out, then others or someone will takeover the mantle the way Buhari will hand over the affairs to you come 29th May, 2023 Inshaa Allah.

Therefore, treat us equally regardless of our background, because that’s what people like you are meant to be, beside only that can prove your intellectualism, rationalism and justice.

I pray that the Almighty Allah guide you on the right path and may He give you the courage and strength of balancing any equation that you will come across and may you do justice to Nigerians, amin.

Abubakar Muhammad Sani,
