Lewandowski hopes to break no-goal jinx against Nigeria

.As Iheanacho, Ighalo lead Eagles attack

Poland superstar Robert Lewandowski will hope on Friday night to fi nally break his jinx of having not scored for his country in Wroclaw in six appearances.
The Polish goal monger will be aiming to accomplish this feat as Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to be a factor in the Super Eagles attack in today’s friendly against Poland, playing behind top striker Odion Ighalo in Gernot Rohr’s preferred 4-3-2-1 formation.
Bayern Munich star striker Lewandowski has scored 51 goals for his country – an all-time goals record for Poland – but none of these goals have been scored in the city of Wroclaw.
He has played six times for ‘Whites and Reds’ in Wroclaw with no goals to show.
Lewandowski is expected to start tomorrow night’s game but he is not expected to complete it as both club and country have tried to control his game time so as to keep him “fresh” all the way to the World Cup.
Poland are ranked sixth in the FIFA Rankings, while Nigeria are a distant 52nd.
Today’s game will be the first time both Poland and Nigeria will clash at full international level.
Hints from the Eagles camp indicated that none of the fresh invitees by Coach Rohr will start for Nigeria against the Poland tonight.
The 4-3-2-1 formation was what Rohr used to qualify Nigeria to Russia 2018 with a game to spare.
He has hinted he plans to use the warmup matches against Poland and Serbia to try out new tactics and formations as part of the build-up for the World Cup.
It is already given that youngster Francis Uzoho will start in goal with possibly left back Brian Idowu the only change in a back four that has right back Shehu Abdullahi as well as central defenders Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong.
Defensive midfielders would be Wilfred Ndidi and stand-in captain Ogenyi Onazi to screen the defence and upfield Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi will run the wings.
