LG poll: NSCDC deploys 1,950 personnel in Niger

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger state command, said it had deployed 1,950 personnel across the 25 local government areas for Saturday’s council elections in the state.

The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr George Edem, who disclosed this in Minna, Tuesday, said the deployment was to enable eligible voters to exercise their franchise without any fear of being attacked.

He said that Area commanders and Divisional officers across the 25 local government areas had since been redeployed to ensure total neutrality during and after the elections.

He said that the personnel along with other security agencies would provide an enabling environment for the smooth implementation of the electoral process in the state.

The commander said that the security measure already in place would pave way for free, fair and credible elections.

He said that the heavy presence of security personnel was aimed at ensuring a violent-free election.

He said that the command and other security agencies had drawn an operation order to check activities of troublemakers during the polls.

Edem warned that any person or group of persons found wanting during and after the election would be arrested and prosecuted

He advised parents not to allow their children to be used as political thugs and ballot box snatchers during the elections.NAN
