LG workers hold rally today over nonpayment of salaries

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Delta State chapter will today continue their ongoing  rally to protest non payment of salaries to LG  workers in the state.
The workers had last week stormed Effurum, Delta Central Senatorial Zone, and today, the train will move to Warri South Local government Secretariat in the Delta South Sentorial zone of the State and is expected to stop next week for the grand finale in Ika, Agbor for the the Delta North Senatorial zone.
They are demanding for the urgent payment of the money, which according to them is ranging from 8-13 months.

Secretary of the union in Delta, comrade Peter Ene told Blueprint that it is unfortunate that the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa is comfortable when Local Government workers are wallowing in abject poverty as a result of nonpayment of their salaries.
According to him, these and other challenges Local government system is facing would be address said if governors allow full autonomy in the third ties of government.

He said “we are  demanding for immediate payment of 8-13 months arrears of salaries from the state government and we are also saying no to  percentage payment of salaries.
“The protest rally will continue throughout the senatorial zones and Asaba state capital until the state govt resolve our grievances.
Though the rally was very peaceful however there were heavy traffic due to the actions of the workers who were marching along major roads leading in and out of warri town”.
