#Live: Lawan sworn-in as Senate President after landslide victory, election process for DSP kicks off

Senator Ahmed Lawan of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Yobe North has been elected and sworn-in as President of the Senate of the 9th National Assembly.

Lawan defeated his main opponent, Ali Ndume to emerge the Senate President.

He scored 79 of the votes cast to 28 by his opponent.

107 Senators voted in the election.

Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) nominated Lawan for the position while Senator Ishaku Elisha (PDP Adamawa North) nominated Ndume for the contest .

Already. the process of electing the deputy Senate President has begun.
