LMC days are numbered – NFF

With the inauguration of electoral committee members who are saddled with the responsibility of conducting election for all board members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and various substantive league board chairmen, no interim leadership arrangement will continue in any of the country’s leagues after August, this year, NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has stated.

Currently, Nigeria’s top flight league, Nigeria Premier League (NPL) is administered by an interim body known as League Management Company (LMC). It is the only football league presently managed by an adhoc body.

Constituted in 2012 by the NFF after Chief Ramson Baribote-led NPL executive was ousted, LMC which was formally regarded as League Management Committee later obtained what appears like a permanent registration format from Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
But with recent pronouncement by NFF president who spoke through a member of NFF executive committee, Alhaji Muazu Suleiman, LMC will only exist for the next five months since election has now been scheduled for August.

Asked if LMC would continue as managers of NPFL, Alhaji Suleiman was quick to provide the answer: “Of course, there will be election that will produce a substantive board for NPL. What we have now in the NPL is an adhoc arrangement and is not done anywhere in the world.
“We cannot continue to have the LMC. We only asked them to be there for the time being until we conduct election. The earlier we have a substantive body to pilot the affairs of NPL, the better.

When Blueprint Sports correspondent further asked what would be the fate of LMC after the election, the NFF board member categorically stated: “Certainly, the moment an election is conducted, the LMC is gone.”

Speaking in the same vein, secretary general of NFF, Barr. Musa Amadu, corroborated his colleague’s assertion: “Elections will be conducted to usher in substantive executives that will take charge of the various leagues.
