Lobi Stars victory will trigger development in Sports –Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue has said the victory of Lobi Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL will trigger development in football and other sporting events in the state.
Governor Ortom said this on Wednesday when players and officials of Lobi Stars were in Government House Makurdi, to present the trophy as winner of the 2017/2018 NPFL season.
Blueprint gathered that the club came top of the Nigeria Professional League (NPL) and they were declared the winners on Friday.
The team had not qualified for Confederation of African Football cup competitions for the past 19 years.
Addressing the players and management, Ortom said he was happy that God has used Lobi Stars to bring joy to the state after it had been ravaged by herdsmen attack adding, “they have done us proud,” He directed the Commissioner for Finance to clear all the outstanding allowances and other bonuses owed Lobi Stars Football Club, Makurdi.
The governor said that even if there was no funds, the commissioner should borrow in order to offset the backlog of allowances owed the club.
”Wherever there are resources we will bring them out to celebrate the victory”.
Also, the Deputy Governor Engr Benson Abounu who is also the chairman of the club commended the governor for his moral and financial support that enabled the club to come top of the league.
Earlier, Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars, Mr Mike Idoko complained that the club lacked vehicles, stressing that even the ones they had were worn out and needed replacement.
He expressed hope that the club would win the CAF Champions League billed to kickoff early next year
