Lokoja varsity expels 13 students for exam malpractices

The Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi state, has expelled 13 final year students of Economic Department for indulging in examination malpractices.

Addressing newsmen yesterday at the premises of the institution, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Freeman Angela Miri, explained that the offence was committed on the 4th of November last year during their second semester and final year examinations.

She further added that the examination questions were leaked to the students by some staff of the institution which led to the suspension of the course during the examination.

“Disciplinary committee was set up by the institution to investigate some students when it was discovered by the management that examination question papers were leaked.

“The affected students were invited by the committee for questioning and the investigation of the committee found them guilty and then recommended them to the Senate of the institution for expulsion,” she said.

Miri, who noted that the Senate met based on the report of the disciplinary committee and expelled the 13 final year students from the institution, added that staff that were involved in the scandal were being investigated by another committee set up by the management.

“We are going to take action against any of the staff involved in the malpractice. This is an institution that everybody looks up to. We are not going to give room for examination malpractice and we want to be best in Nigeria and the world in general.

“The affected students have been given the chance to appeal the decision of the Senate which some of them have complied.

“The committee will once again look into their appeal and if found guilty that means they remain expelled, while anyone found to be innocent would be exonerated, she said.
