Lokpobiri not a threat to my guber ambition- Aganaba

One of the aspirants jostling for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state governorship ticket, Engr Preye Aganaba, has declared that former the Minister of state, Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, is not a threat to his ambition.

Lokpobiri, who is also a gubernatorial aspirant, had expressed his preference for indirect primary as the best mode of primary but his rival, Aganaba, said whatever mode the national executive decides to use, he would emerge victorious.

Speaking Monday after submitting his nomination forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Aganaba said direct primary would clear the doubt of everyone, while also expressing confidence in the party’s ability to conduct free and fair primary election.

Asked if Lokpobiri is a threat to his ambition, he said, “Lokpobiri is not threat, nobody is a threat, forget about big names in Abuja. When the chips are down we will know who owns the party.

“We need somebody, anybody we can work with. The reality is that we are on ground, Bayelsa wants a fresh face across party lines, someone without baggage”, he said insisting that the likes of Lokpobiri have outlived their usefulness.

Aganaba said he decided to contest because he was out to redefine the business of governance in Bayelsa state.

According to him, “I think it is left for the national headquarters to decide but whatever mode they choose we will abide. But most of our members want to participate in the primaries. Anyone they choose is fine but direct primary will clear anyone’s doubt.

Aganaba said that in respect to the principle of power rotation in the state that it was the turn of Bayelsa Central to produce the next governor of the state.

“It is the turn of Bayelsa Central to produce the governor. Power has moved to west and east. Power is coming to Bayelsa central and nobody or no party can fight that, though that’s not why I’m running but ‘am contesting because I’m the best candidate to govern the state.

“Bayelsa state capital remains a slum. Bayelsa needs APC more than APC needs Bayelsa.”
