LP alleges plan to coerce workers into APC

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) commences membership registration drive today, the Ekiti state chapter of the Labour Party(LP)  has raised the alarm over alleged plan by the party to coerce workers in the state public service to register as members.
The LP, in a statement signed by the party’s state chairman, Hon. Akinbowale Omole, and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, said it is rather disturbing for the APC-led government in  the state to politicize the state civil service in its desperation to win the June 21 governorship election.
However, the APC Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Segun Dipe, who refuted the allegation, said the party already had sufficient membership that would not warrant it to start coercing civil servants that are prohibited by statute to register as members.
But insisting on his claim,  Omole said, “The Labour Party expressed resentment at the subtle threats and intrigues being employed by governor’s APC leadership in Ekiti to bamboozle and sub play threaten the workers that the registration cards that would be issued to those register as members of the APC would serve as tickets for promotions, access to juicy civil service positions and other benefits that can enhance their careers as civil servants.”
LP observed that joining a political party is a voluntary issue that should not be forced on workers who occupy strategic and sensitive positions in the State as a non-partisan group.
