Maguire storms Man Utd’s training ground ahead record move

Harry Maguire arrived at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground on Sunday ahead of sealing his £80million move from Leicester.

The 26-year-old was seen being driven into United’s training headquarters in a black Range Rover on Sunday morning.

It is understood Maguire is in Manchester to put the finishing touches on his move which will see him become the most expensive defender of all-time.

Maguire underwent his medical over the weekend and is set to be confirmed as a United player by Monday.

The England international will train with his new team-mates next week, although it’s unclear if he will play in a behind-closed-doors game against Blackburn Rovers at Carrington on Sunday.

The defender has put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal worth up to £200,000 a week with the option for a further 12 months. The deal will see Maguire become the world’s most expensive defender after United agreed to pay Leicester a record £80m on Friday after weeks of negotiations.

Maguire’s transfer fee eclipses the £75m Liverpool spent to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018.

He is expected to start United’s Premier League campaign next weekend along with Paul Pogba, who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted will not be sold to Real Madrid before Thursday’s deadline.

The defender has kept fit playing in Leicester’s pre-season matches and Solskjaer admitted it’s an option to select him straight away after their friendly victory on penalties against AC Milan in Cardiff.

‘Hopefully the last little details (of the transfer) will be in place and we can announce something soon,’ he said.

‘Let’s get the last details over the line but he’s played a few games over the summer so we’ll have to assess him if and when.’

Leicester have bagged themselves a significant profit on Maguire, having signed him for just £17m from Hull City two years ago.

The Foxes are considering moves for Brighton’s Lewis Dunk, Burnley’s James Tarkowski and Watford’s Christian Kabasele as replacements for Maguire.
