Maintain professionalism in discharging your duties, NUJ Leader tells Journalists

Journalists in Yobe state have been called upon to be more
professional in discharging their duties during the forth coming 2019
elections.

These were words of the North East Deputy President of Nigeria Union
of Journalists NUJ, Comrade Muktar Gidado while declaring open a 2 day
workshop organized on 2019 election coverage organized by the Yobe
council.

“As we face the 2019 election, I urged you to be more professional.
You should be mindful of reporting issues regarding elections”.

“I urged you to always verify information before reporting and not to
report issues that will cause violence” he said.

Earlier in a welcome address the chairman of the NUJ in Yobe, Comrade
Yusuf Isah, said holding of the workshop outside the state was
deliberate act in order to get the attention of the participants.

He, said every election comes with its challenges, therefore there is
need to tap experience from the veterans journalists.

One of the resource persons, Head of Department Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Bello Madaki Beli, stressed the need for the
journalists to be fair in reporting, give voters a voice and not to be
partisan and also should not take gifts.

About fifteen journalists drawn across print and electronic media
attended the workshop.
