Bundesliga club Mainz 05 shelled out $500,000 for them to take Taiwo Awoniyi on a season-long loan from Premier League club Liverpool, according to transfer market.

This will be the fifth loan spell Awoniyi has undertaken since he signed for Liverpool as he is yet to secure a work permit in the UK

The 21-year-old striker has previously played on loan at FSV Frankfurt (Germany), NEC Nimegen (Holland), Royal Excel Mouscron (twice) and Genk (Belgium).

Last year, the former Nigeria U17 and U20 star signed a new long-term contract with the European champions.

He is now a Nigeria U-23 international.
