A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state, Alhaji Audi Yaro Makama Rigachikun, at the weekend, defected from the party with his supporters to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging poor performance and anti-people policies.
Makama Rigachikun, who was a founding member and state chairman of the party between 1999 and 2007, joined the ruling APC in 2014, following division in the party ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Addressing a large crowd of supporters and party faithful from across the state, the grassroots politician said after two years in office, APC seemed to have lost focus, hence the need to look for an alternative.
Makama said it was time to change the change, and asked the state governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, to start packing his belongings from the government house.
He told PDP faithful that included PDP caretaker chairman, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, BOT chairman, Sen. Walid Jibril, BOT member, Hajiya Hauwa Musa Kids, North West Zone Women Leader, Hajiya Halima Kajuru and Kaduna state chairman of the party, Hon Hassan Hyet, that he joined the ruling APC thinking it would address the numerous problems confronting Nigerians.
“The party has brought much suffering to Nigerians, in Kaduna state, the teachers are crying, local government workers are suffering and traditional instituions are ridiculed. The school feeding programme is in comatose; in fact nothing is working in the state. So we must change the change,” he said.
Excited supporters, who thronged the venue, waited patiently for hours before the ceremony eventually kicked off.
