Make prepaid meters available

One of the cornerstone policies of the federal government is its vision to achieve stable power supply round the country.

One of the steps taken so far to be on traction is the acquisition, distribution and availability of prepaid meters for the citizenry. The step which is very laudable has been measured as a pragmatic approach to escape the invisible gulf created by the cabal working for electricity companies since Independence.

The prepaid meters being experimented by less than one per cent of the country’s population presently are already yielding fruits.

Therefore, one spectacular effort that the present regime must not afford to lose focus of is achieving smooth distribution and availability of the facility for every citizen as a major pathway to positively affect everyone in this country.

As a country working assiduously for debt relief since the beginning of this Fourth Republic from foreign powers and considering the recovery of huge loot by the federal government till now, the minister of power should think of initiating a policy that will write off all debts owed the power companies under the old estimated regime. This is because, much of the debts were inflicted on the citizens through crazy billing in an era of epileptic power supply.

This move will create a clean break from the muddy history of the nation’s power supply by putting the officials on their toes, and at the same time, enhancing the purchasing power of over 80 million Nigerians experiencing excruciating poverty to have a positive livelihood and to a large extent, enabling the transition to prepaid meters to gain a successful spread.

This audacious intervention is a visible headway to move the country on the path of national recovery.
