Makinde swears in 32 newly elected LG chairmen, says PDP ‘ll win Ido Wednesday

Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday disclosed that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win the Wednesday rescheduled elections in Ido local government area of Oyo state

The governor stated this in Ibadan while performing the swearing in ceremony for 32 newly elected local government areas of the state held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Gov Makinde said that he is confident that the election in the remaining local government, Ido Local Government, where election was rescheduled because of the missing Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) logo on the ballot, will be won by the PDP

He maintained that the election held on Saturday was free and fair and that it was in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that the people of the state have elected their representatives.

The governor urged the 32 newly-elected Chairmen to replicate the people-oriented policies and good governance being implemented in the state at the grassroots.

“To the newly elected and sworn-in Local Government Chairmen, let me state that you have the opportunity to deliver good governance to the people of Oyo State. We cannot over emphasise the importance of governance at the grassroots. The people of Oyo State must feel your presence by way of development and good governance”, he said.

Gov Makinde added, ” just as they are holding me accountable, they will also hold you accountable. I will, therefore, advise that you replicate the good governance initiatives at the state level at the grassroots level.”

Congratulating the newly elected Chairmen, the governor insisted that the election held on Saturday was free and fair and that it was in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that the people of the state have elected their representatives, saying, “you are the real winners in this process, as you can rightly say that you have elected your representatives”.

Earlier in the day, all the 32 newly elected local government Chairmen in Oyo state were presented certificates of return by the Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) , Aare Isiaka Olagunju (SAN) at the Commission headquarters in Ibadan

Aare Olagunju charged the newly elected Chairmen to fulfil all their electoral promises to the people of their respective councils and be ready to serve by working adequately to be able to leave lasting legacies

“I want them to see themselves as servants of the people. They should work and ensure that they leave lasting legacies. They should fulfil their promises to the people.” he said.
