As relative peace returned to the troubled Taraba Mambilla Plateau in Sarduna local government area of the state, the fleeing refugees from the Republic of Cameron have flooded Gembu, the headquarters of the local government and its environs.
The refugees, who identified themselves as south west Cameronians, said they fled their country because of the dictatorial policies of the central government of the country.
According to the secretary of the fleeing refugees, Mr Morice Rinda, who said he was from Bamida, “the Anglophones living in Cameron have no right as humans as they are treated same with other animals.”
He further explained that in the Cameron, all their schools, hospitals, markets and network services for communication were shot down, in addition to their being killed by gendarmes, just like flies.
Rindam also said before the closure of institutions in the area, French language was imposed on English speaking communities in their schools.
Reacting to a question on their immediate challenges, Rinda said they were facing feeding, health, accommodation and security challenges.
Confirming the story to Blueprint, the caretaker committee chairman of the local government and desk officer of the state Emergency Management Agency, Godswill Sol, and George Kataps,
respectively, confirmed the presence and challenges of the refugees.
The two state authorities also said the refugees in their numbers were on the increase every day.
