Man, 28, attacks security officer, kills own wife, child in Anambra

Tragedy struck in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra state as a 28-year-old man, Mr Chukwuemeka Obijofa allegedly attacked and killed his wife and a child with a shovel.
The suspect, Blueprint learnt, reportedly perpetrated the act at about 7.45pm on Tuesday, 26 January 2021 during which he equally inflicted a degree of injury on the local vigilante who had come to rescue the deceased.


Confirming the report, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Haruna Muhammed, said the suspect was subsequently arrested by the police operatives attached to Ozubulu police station.
“On the 26/1/2021 at about 7:45pm, Police operatives attached to Ozubulu Police Station, arrested one, ‘m’, aged 28 years, of Ofufe Nza village in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State. Suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, one Chisom Chukwuemeka, ‘f’, aged 26 years, and own child, named Amanda Chukwuemeka, ‘m’, aged 4 years, both of same address, with a shovel on their heads.


“Suspect equally used the same object and wounded a vigilante man who tried to rescue the victims. Meanwhile, police detectives visited the scene and rushed victims to the joint hospital, Ozubulu, for medical attention where the two victims were certified dead by a medical doctor on arrival. The wounded vigilante is responding to treatment, while the corpses of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy,” Muhammed added. 


According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ozubulu Police station to transfer the case to State CID, Awka, for discreet investigation to unravel the actual cause of the incident.
