Man bags 18 months in prison for ‘burglary’

An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old man, Sipinau Umaru, to 18 months imprisonment for burglary.
Umaru had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of burglary and malicious damages and begged for leniency.
The Magistrate, Mr Olusegun Ayilara, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun had told the court that the convict committed the offences on March 12 at about 3:30 p.m, at Aiyetoro Layout, Dada Estate in Osogbo.
Abiodun said the convict broke into the apartment of one Obi Omonah by destroying the window aluminium frame to gain entrance into the house.
“Umaru destroyed the window frame and gained entrance into the room before he was apprehended on the spot by co-tenants to the complainant,” he said.
He said the value of the aluminium window frame destroyed by the convict was N15,000. The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 411 and 451 of the Criminal Code cap 34 Vol.11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict.
