Man charged with cheating friend of N39, 000

A 32-year-old businessman, Umar Maje of AP Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, yesterday appeared in a Kado Upper Area Court, Abuja, charged with cheating his friend of N39,000.
Maje is facing a two-count charge of breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Muhammed Idris of No. 1, Kampala St., Wuse 2, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on March 10.

Ibrahim said the complainant gave the accused 36 pairs of shoes valued at N39, 000 to help him sell and return the money.
He said the accused sold the shoes and converted the money to his own personal use.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

If convicted, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment, an option of fine or both.
The Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the accused to bail for N10, 000 with a surety.
Sadiq said the surety must have a fixed address and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the matter to May 7, for hearing. (NAN)
