Man docked for N2.2m fraud

A 37-year-old man, Semiu Baruwa, has been arrested and charged to court for fraudulently collecting and selling a car valued at N2.2 million without remitting the money to its owner.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Solomon Oladele, told the court that the accused and others at large, collected a Toyota Highlander Jeep from one John Oluwanifise, on September 8, 2012, under the pretence of helping  him to  sell it in Abuja.

He said, “After collecting the vehicle from their victim, they neither gave him the proceeds of its sale nor returned the vehicle back,’’ an offence, which contravened sections 516,419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun,  2003.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty while his counsel, Mrs. Belinda Akin-Akinode, applied for his bail.
Chief Magistrate Adebayo Lasisi granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Lasisi said the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction,  provide two passport photographs while the  addresses must be verified by the police.
The case was adjourned to April 3, 2014, for mention.
