Man in court for decency, theft

A man, Samuel Maina, was yesterday arraigned before an Upper Area Court at Karu in the FCT for allegedly touching a woman’s breast and snatching her bag.

He is, therefore, facing a two-count charge of gross indecency and theft.
The accused and two others, now at large, were reported by the victim, Alice Ujah, at the Asokoro Police Station on February 24.
According the police prosecutor, Insp. Phillip Akugo, the complainant, said she had boarded a taxi with the accused and two others from AYA to Kuruduma village, where she resides, and that on the way, the accused started touching her breasts while one of the other passengers, believed to be his accomplice, began to ransack her bag. They took her N34, 000 and threatened to beat her if she raised an alarm.

The driver of the car, who is also an accomplice, it was gathered, drove her to an unknown place where he stripped her naked.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety in like sum and the matter was adjourned to April 14, for hearing.
