Man in court over attempt to ‘steal’ from Church

The Police have arraigned a 23-year-old man, Ugwu Ekenechukwu, in a Kado Upper Area Court for attempting to steal from a Church.
Ekenechukwu, who resides at Nyanya, a satellite town of Abuja was charged with criminal trespass and attempt to commit an offence.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Ogbonnaya Favour of Plot 184, Area C, Nyanya, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on March 25.
Ibrahim said the accused trespassed into the Lord’s Chosen Church in Utako, Abuja, where the complainant works and tried to steal.
He said the accused was arrested by private security guards while hiding in one of the offices in the church and was handed over to the police.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 346 and 268 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N10, 000 with a surety in like sum.
He said the surety must have a fixed address and resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
He added that the surety must be a clergyman and adjourned the case until May 5, for hearing. (NAN)
