Man in Police net for stealing placenta in Ogun



A 43 year-old man, Joshua Abraham, has been arrested by men of the Ogun state Police Command for allegedly stealing the placenta of a new born baby.
The suspect, according to a statement by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was arrested in Ibafo area of the state.
The suspect’s arrest, followed a report by one Raliha Zakara, the grandmother of the baby at Ibafo Police station, who explained that the suspect is her close neighbor. came to the hospital where her daughter was delivered of the baby, and pretended to be the father of the new baby, consequent upon which he demanded for the placenta from the nurse on duty and it was given to him.
Oyeyemi said the suspect went away with the placenta, claiming that he was going to bury it.


The command’s spokesman further said, “On getting to the hospital, the grandmother was informed that the suspect had taken away the placenta.This made her to quickly confront the suspect, but he told her that he had buried the placenta.”
“When the grandmother insisted that she should be taken to where he buried it, it was discovered that he has hidden the placenta but buried a dead rat,” Oyeyemi disclosed.

Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo Division, Abiodun Ayinde, detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested. 
When taken into Police custody, it was discovered that the suspect had once been arrested for defrauding a Police officer, and a pastor of huge sum of money under the pretence of procuring Canadian Visa for them and the case was being prosecuted in court. 
“The suspect had since taken the detectives to where he hid the placenta and it had been recovered,” Oyeyemi added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has directed that a thorough investigation be carried out, and that the suspect be charged to court as soon as possible.
