Man jailed for beating government officials

A 36-year-old man, Nicholas Ighomudo, was on Tuesday remanded at Ilesha prison custody by an Osun State Magistrate’s sitting in Osogbo for allegedly beating two Osun health workers to comma.
The accused was said to have molested the officials while they were on an official assignment.
The prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, told the court that Ighomudo committed the alleged crime on the 14th of October 2017 at about 10:30pm at Onibueja Area, Ido- Osun.
The prosecution alleged that the accused assaulted the duo of Kehinde Luqman and Naheem Bakare by beating them up.
The alleged offence contravened the provision of section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bordering on assault and disturbance of public peace.
Counsel to the accused, Mrs. Abiodun Raji, urged the court to grant the accused bail in the most liberal terms, assuring that the accused would not abuse bail privilege, if granted.
But, the prosecution opposed the bail application, saying the victims were on an official assignment when they were attacked.
He said releasing the accused may jeopardise police efforts at arresting other suspects at large.
Magistrate Adijat Olatundun Oloyade, thereby ordered that the accused be remanded at Ilesha prison custody and adjourned the case till November 28, 2017, for hearing.
