Man jailed for stealing mobile phone, slippers in Osun

A 26-year-old man, Sunday Adebayo, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Osun state Magistrate’s Court for stealing mobile phone and slippers valued at N71,000.

The police prosecutor, Adeoye Kayode, told the court that the convict committed the crime on February 8, 2023, at about 6am at No.10, Oke Oro, Fiwasaye Area, Osogbo.

He said the convict entered the dwelling house of one Jimoh Adedigba and stole steal one iPad phone valued at N54,000, two pairs of palm slippers valued at N7,000, and N10,000 cash all total N71, 000.

The offenses were contrary to and punishable under sections 412 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The convict admitted guilty of the allegations and prayed the court to be merciful with him.

His counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, appealed to the court to be lenient in sentencing him, saying that the convict is a first offender and he has regretted his action.

Magistrate Adebayo Ajala thereby sentenced him to three years imprisonment with an option of a fine of N10, 000 on each of the two counts.
