Man jailed for vandalising EEDC transformer

A federal court sitting in Owerri, Imo state has sentenced a 25 year old man, Chidiebere Duru to three years imprisonment for vandalising a 200KVA transformer belonging to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
Duru, an indigene of Umuafai village, Dikenafai, Ideato South local government area of the state was sentenced on Friday, March 23 by Hon.
Justice Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Owerri Judicial Division, who ruled that the action was contrary to the provisions of Section 1 (9) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, L.

EEDC Head of Communication, Emeka Eze, disclosed that the transformer Duru unlawfully tampered with was located at Umuejim Nnenato, Dikenafai, Ideato South local government area of the state.
“We are equally intensifying effort and collaboration with security agencies as well as various vigilante groups, in ensuring that these vandals are apprehended and prosecuted accordingly; and we are not relenting in this effort,” Eze added.
The EEDC Head of Communication further lamented that the company had committed millions of naira replacing vandalised items within its network, thereby affecting their finances, and opportunities of channelling them to better areas for prompt service delivery
